NIMFG has been in existence for two years. Despite a lot of effort, little progress was made. NIMFG has now been reconstituted, with a full time office and support staff.
We want to cap the industrial rates at 25% of the proposed level. This is in line with the relief offered to the freight industry. We need to achieve this result within 18 months. .

The problem for Northern Ireland is the large number of people who are economically inactive. Typically, such people have low skills and seek work in manual or semi-skilled employment. It is asking a lot for people to move directly into a knowledge based economy. We should be able to provide gainful employment with a decent wage for all sections of the community regardless of educational background
If the companies relocated, Northern Ireland will lose the cream of its entrepreneruial talent and much of its investment capital. That is the real loss, but overseas workers also contribute to the local economy. They buy foodstuffs in the local shop and they pay taxes. If they leave, the balance between public sector income and outgoings will get worse.
