The decision to introduce
rates on companies will cost thousands of jobs and will drive our biggest and best companies abroad. At a time when the Government is trying to reduce our dependence on the public sector, you must wonder why it is encouraging existing business to leave.
NIMFG represents over 300 manufacturing companies in Northern Ireland. We are united in our opposition to this measure which will destroy the very fabric of Norhtern Ireland.
We freight our raw materials in and exports out, we pay the highest energy charges and the most expensive insurance rates. Only the absence of industrial rates give us the chance to compete. With that gone, Northern Ireland has simply become too expensive to do business in.
We will not sit idly by whilst politicians with no concept of business or the impact of their decisions destroy our businesses or force us out of Northern Ireland.Business must not leave politics to the politiciansFor too long the business community in Northern Ireland has stayed out of politics. NIMFG will not make that mistake. The decisions being made defy logic and are
political in nature. Our membership is drawn from across the political spectrum, but we are prepared to enter the political arena because no other approach has worked.
If the government wish us to make the economic (survial) case for political stability and progress, we are prepared to make it to all political parties, elected representatives and our employees. We intend to lobby vigorously to secure our future, because regardless of their political aspirations people need to put bread on the table and you can't do that without a job.
